I have been exercising and working out a bit for several weeks. I have also been gradually cutting back on my food intake. This week I started everything for real! Hardcore so to speak...not starving myself but really eating the proper portions, no fast food and no soda (although I drink diet anyways...Diet Dr. Pepper FTW!!!). Monday and Tuesday really sucked...I didnt think I was going to make it...not die or anything but I was freaking starving later those nights. Melinda really helped me out there, she made a yogurt dessert with lowfat graham crackers in it...was good and hit the spot. I could tell my body was not used to that little amount of food. I never really thought I ate THAT much...well I dont except at dinner time...for some reason I LOVE DINNER TIME. I will eat seconds or thirds if it is there. NOT ANYMORE! To help me get balance in my dinners I have been eating lean cuisines and weight watchers meals. Also the lean pockets are really pretty good and they fill you up nicely! Wednesday was easier and Thursday was pretty simple. I had a pack of oatmeal for breakfast, my bag of rice cakes for lunch and then I had a bowl of special k ceral for dinner...two servings with 1% milk. After my cereal I was actually full! o i had 2 pieces of cheese to hold me over till dinner.

Scott said when he started that it felt like he was addicted and going through withdrawls...well I wasnt that bad but I could tell it sucked!

I was reading John's blog the other day and he was yammering on about this and that...well one thing caught my eye. He started talking about changing life, cleaning adobe stuff out, cleaning his desk yada yada yada...well I think that hit home for me...probably the other phatboys as well. I think we all realized that our health is for the crapper and wanted to make some changes. I found myself last week cleaning my office as well...and the closet there. It was really bad. I have also cleaned out the hall closet and worked on the garage. I have found myself making a list of things I want to do or will have done this sring/summer and I find I am trying to help Sarah out more since she is making improvements (this is a whole other story) so maybe this is the phatboys mid life crisis or something LOL.

I am glad we are doing this all together...we dont talk everyday or even every week but the blogs are helping...at least helping me. Me writing is helping me to remind myself of things and get things out there that will help me motivate myself now and later. Me reading others blogs I remember that I am not alone and I see the hard parts they are going thru and reminds me that it isnt easy. It also shows me things I can work on. I hope we all keep up these blogs...Jerry move your ass. Hell me just typing right now is getting me motivated to go home and get on the treadmill today.

Talked with Jerry a bit this week and he is getting on his eliptical trainer (hurts my knees to use one of those) so that is great news...he already ate the least of all of us and he is technically the smallest of all of us so that is good for him...I think that will help him out a great deal.

Talked with Steve this week. I told him I was concerned about the rattlesnake climb in a couple of weeks. Not for me so much but for the other phatboys. I hadnt heard any of them working out yet...they were all working on there food but no workouts yet. I told him that yeah it is an easy climb but for as out of shape as we are I was really worried that Scott and John might have troubles (not trying to be mean...just really worried) but after listening to everyone this week it sounds like they are getting there asses moving on the workouts! It will still be hard and I am still a bit worried but I think they are heading in the right direction. Jerry said he was going to make the top...and if he died there that was ok just throw a blanket over him! I am really excited to go hiking again...i hope we have good weather :-(

Right now my goals are pretty simple. I want to continue doing my 2 miles a day 5 times a week but I want to continue to work on doing it faster...then when i get faster I will add more distance. I want to get my bench together here in the next week or so. I got my weights out and they are ready to go. Lastly keep working on the portion control...that is my key to success!!!

Keep up the good work all...rattlesnake is just around the corner!

Goals for Myself

1. I want to lose 75 pounds before the last day of 2006.

2. I will maintain my current workout schedule of a minimum of 25-30 minutes of cardio on my treadmill at least 4 times per week.

3. I will assemble my weight bench that has been sitting there FOREVER J no later than 3/15/2006.

4. Lifting weights not a huge issue to me but I want to use the weightlifting to assist me in my weight loss. With this in mind I want to add to my cardio routine to include using my bench to do dumb bell exercises for toning and weight loss, squats for toning and weight loss and use the bench to do 25 crunches to start and work up to 100+ crunches by years end.

5. Attend at least 50% of Phatboyz sponsored exercise events beginning with the kick-off hike up Rattlesnake Ledge (3/2/2006).

6. I will do no less than 6 day hikes throughout 2006.

7. I will Summit Mount Si at least once and Mailbox Peak at least once before 8/31/2006. My ultimate goal would be to make it all the way to the top of Mailbox this time AND find the geocache up there!(truth be told…the last one has stuck in my craw, yeah I laugh about it but I am pissed I didn’t make it).

8. I want to convince (or help those that are convinced) at least one of the Phatboyz to get in shape. I also want to help Scott and Jerry as needed. These two because they are the closest to me and I see them the most. This is more for just motivational purposes that we are there for each other.

9. A stretch goal for me in 2006 will be to start riding my bike again. I would love to go on a couple of long rides this summer. The minimum goal for me would be to hit a couple of longer rides (20-50 miles)…maybe while camping or something…ah the hot eastern washington air, riding a bike. Biggest goal (huge stretch) would be to ride the Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic in July I could do the one day or the two day event.

10. As far as food goes, I want to cut back on my Taco Bell…this has been my biggest trouble spot! It is fast, easy and mmm-mmm good LOL. I want to cut my Taco Bell back to 1-2 times per month and cut my food order in half.

11. I want to start geocaching again. Not just alone and drive up ones but taking my wife, kids, kyle ashley etc and go on small hikes for everyone to get exercise.

12. My last goal is one of the hardest, I want to make myself blog my efforts over the year. This is going to be tough because I hate to do this J but I think It is important to see what I am doing and by reading it and putting it down somewhere will really help. My goal is to not get more than 2 weeks apart.

Day 1 for real

Alright, I think I have all the information I need to get this started for real. A couple of weeks late starting this but well within my goals listed :-)

So far things are progressing nicely. I would of liked to see more weight loss but I think I have eased my way into it pretty well. The big hurdle was getting away from WoW...and getting on the treadmill. My issue had always been, go home from work and I would always think of a "reason" to log on and "check" my status or some mail or some crap. NOW I have worked my way to not do that. I go home and go change, take a pee pee (water makes you do that and long drive home makes for serious pee pee) anways...i digress! where was I...oh yea, pee, grab another drink, usually some juice or something. Then I go downstairs and turn on the tv, sit for a minute collect my thoughts pick a good tivo'd show then stretch (ok that is bs there) and get on the treadmill. This is working well!!! I have gotten on the treadmill everyday!!! Then I get off the treadmill and then walk around the room a bit and cool down. After all that i go shower, change then I am free to WoW :-)

Soon I will be adding weights to my workout. I cleaned out my office closet yesterday and found my weights and bars. Now I just have to get the bench put together...shouldnt be too difficult, I will say that the goals I made for myself are helping...i keep thinking that i put down March 15th to have that bench together and I dont want to miss that deadline LOL.

One of the things I think is motivating me is the fact that March 2nd is coming quick and I want to be ready for rattlesnake...it isnt a hard climb by any means but if you havent gotten any walking in, it will be a bit more of a challenge! I keep thinking about Steve and I climbing that 2 years ago...it was pretty easy. That was our beginning of getting our asses in gear back then...return to the scene again :-)

I feel like I am rambling on...I probably am but that is what a blog is for right?

anyways I have more thoughts but I will save that for my next blog. This week my goal is get a better menu set and better portions...i have cut WAY back on the fast food but still eating tooooooo much for dinner! This week I am focusing on that.

Day 1 (not really but for this it is)

Scott sent me this website so I thought I would see if I could get this up and running.
